Toei Reveals Return Date for One Piece, Digimon Adventure

Among the first productions impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic were ones based out of East Asia, including popular anime series like One Piece and Digimon Adventure.

After months of delays stemming from the global health crisis, Toei Animation has announced both of its anime series would return with brand-new episodes for broadcast on Japanese television on June 28. It will be the fourth episode of the studio's relaunch of Digimon and the 930th of its long-running adaptation of the bestselling manga series One Piece.

Both anime series had halted its regularly scheduled broadcasts on April 19 as production was impacted by the pandemic. In advance of Toei's confirmation, the first three episodes of Digimon Adventure had scheduled to re-air to prepare audiences for the series' eventual return.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of Straw Hat Pirates as they embark on a quest to obtain the eponymous treasure and gain the title of Pirate King. Digimon Adventure is a reimagining of the popular anime franchise that began in 1999, with a young boy named Taichi Yagami who befriends a Digimon known as Agumon before teaming up to stop a new threat to both of their worlds.

Produced by Toei Animation, One Piece and Digimon Adventure return on June 28 in Japan. One Piece is simulcast in the United States through Funimation, Crunchyroll and Anime Lab. Digimon Adventure is simulcast in the United States through Crunchyroll.
