One Piece is undoubtedly one of the most popular pieces of media ever, boasting millions of fans and sales across the globe. The shonen manga/anime follows Monkey D. Luffy searching for the titular treasure. After eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, he gains supernatural powers. However, he's not even the strongest character in the entire show, in fact we only think he's number 18, though he might rise as the series progresses.
Just above Luffy we've got Benn Beckman, who is Shanks' first mate. On top of having a pretty high status, he's said to have the highest IQ of anyone in the East Blue. He's not one to be taken lightly, and we haven't seen the full extent of his power. However, once we do, he's sure to jump up on this list.
Another character above Luffy is Marco the Phoenix, who served as the first mate to Whitebeard. He got his name from the Devil Fruit he ate, which allows him to become a fiery phoenix. As Whitebeard's first mate, he held a lot of status, and he didn't seem to lose it once Whitebeard died. He's held his own against some of the strongest characters in the series, and he's one of the strongest first mates on the show.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece has appeared in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997. Over that time, it's wracked up an incredible 92 volumes. The anime adaptation, which first aired in 1999, has almost hit 900 episodes, as of writing. Season 20 will start airing June 23. In 2018, Oda said the long-running project was approximately 80% complete, indicating it won't end anytime soon.
