Hunter X Hunter: 5 One Piece Characters Gon Can Defeat (& 5 He Cannot)

The worlds of One Piece and Hunter x Hunter are separated by a thick veil known as reality. Under normal circumstances, these two equally fascinating universes will always stay parallel to each other, never to intersect. Except, this is where the fandoms swoop in. Through fervent back and forth debates tackling the subject of who is stronger and who is not - spoiler alert, Goku almost always comes on top - these anime series unwittingly connect each other.

Gon, the lead character of Hunter x Hunter, is quite the controversial shonen protagonist. That said though, today's goal is to discuss his muscle power, rather than his bumpy reputation. He is a tough nut to crack for sure, but the fact remains that he is crackable. Some One Piece characters stand no chance against him, while others would surely take him down.

10 Can Defeat: Alvida

Let’s kick this off with an easy one. Although Alvida’s Sube Sube no Mi grants her a solid blunt damage defense, it is by no means impregnable. There are multiple loopholes of which Gon can make use off to incapacitate Alvida.

Gon’s Nen paper technique, or even better, his scissor technique is more than enough to do the job. Simply put, Alvida stands no chance against Hunter x Hunter's protagonist.

9 Can Not: Sanji

Sanji is not an easy opponent to handle, even by One Piece standards. Furthermore, he became even more troublesome following his raid suit buff. In all likelihood, he is just about commander level by now; heads and shoulders over what Gon could handle.

On top of that, Sanji is a speed-based fighter with an aerial advantage. There exists no scenario that allows Gon, in his current state, to come out on top against Sanji.

8 Can Defeat: Wapol

Possibly the most repulsive villain in the entire series, Wapol would be an easy win for Gon – he has to be. Wapol is what happens when one combines a pathetic villain with a similarly pathetic One Piece noble. The combination leads to an abomination.

With that being said, and as repulsive as Wapol is, he will give Gon a tough fight. His Devil Fruit, Baku Baku no Mi, is particularly annoying to deal with.

7 Can Not: Trafalgar Law

Gon might be a talented young hunter with immeasurable potential up his sleeve. But with that in mind, what’s a talented shonen protagonist when compared to a demigod? Inside his ‘Operating Room,’ describing Law as such would in no way be overestimating his capabilities – the Ope Ope no Mi is just that overpowered!

If Law and his Devil Fruit were not so severely nerfed in later arcs in One Piece, he would be capable of so much more.

6 Can Defeat: Buggy

Some might be thinking "Blasphemy!" at the mere proposal that Buggy could lose against Gon. But these are the facts. It’s quite unfortunate, but Buggy D. Clown would not be able to handle the child prodigy; the skill gap between the two parties is obvious.

The only advantages President Buggy has over Gon are wits and experience. Having said so, one can not win fights with wits and experience alone…well, most fights.

5 Can Not: Eustass Kid

Gon might have tons of potential, but so does Kid. The supernova is one of the chosen few with mastery over all three kinds of Haki. Moreso, with the addition of his totally overpowered Devil Fruit, Kid can evolve to an unmatched destruction machine.

Kid tops Gon in just about any aspect that produces a top-notch fighter. That includes physical capabilities, arsenal, technique, and loads upon loads of experience.

4 Can Defeat: Arlong

Although it’s true that Fishmen are physically superior to humans, this particular Fishman has nothing on Gon. Arlong has seen nothing but defeats throughout his pirate career. He lost against Jinbe, Kizaru, Luffy, etc; one more defeat against Gon shouldn’t really matter to Arlong.

In all fairness, however, a showdown between these combatants would be a thrilling one. Neither has an absolute edge over the other, so the fight would most likely be a close call.

3 Can Not: Zoro

The recent manga chapters highlight just how underrated the Straw Hats are; Zoro, of course, included as well. Fans spent years thinking they raised the bar too high, while in truth, it was too low all along.

A confrontation between Zoro and Gon wouldn’t even qualify as a fight; it would be a one-sided massacre at best. There’s an unscalable gap separating the two. Easy win for Zoro.

2 Can Defeat: Bon Clay/Mr.2

When he first made his debut, Bon Clay was a villain under Crocodile’s command. But as the series progressed, he shed off his villain status and became a fan-favorite character. Fans still await his inevitable return.

Having said so, business is, after all, business. When it comes to throwing punches and hurling kicks, Bon Clay will almost certainly lose against Gon.

1 Can Not: Luffy

Last, but definitely not least, is Monkey D. Luffy; the man who will become the Pirate King, just in case someone didn’t already know. In just a little under 3 years, Luffy skyrocketed from cannon-fodder level to the beast he currently is. Few characters in One Piece can compete with Luffy, and even less have any hope of defeating him.

A fairer battle would be comparing the pre-timeskip Luffy with Gon; however, even then, Luffy would still get the victory.
