5 Underrated Devil Fruits In One Piece (& 5 That Are Massively Overrated)

One Piece is one of the biggest shonen series in the world for plenty of reasons, whether it's the pure unadulterated chaos each arc contains, the unique and loveable cast, or the creatively action-packed fight sequences. And, a mechanic of the setting that plays into all of these aspects is the existence of Devil Fruits.

These fruits are the Power System of One Piece, the scale of strength that characters use (most of the time) to battle against each other. There is an insane amount of them, all with their own gimmicks and possibilities. And while some of them are obviously stronger than others, there a quite a few that didn't get the representation they likely deserved.

10 UNDERRATED: The Hana-Hana No Mi

Robin's fruit is likely the one with the most potential. She can make any part of her body "bloom" like a flower at any location within her sight. This lets her bloom eyes and ears everywhere, make arms pop out of people's torso's, or even create clones of herself. Then, after the time skip, she's mastered this power enough to create gigantic versions of her own limbs and even wings to fly with. Honestly, the evolution of DF powers since the Time-Skip is one of the best ways One Piece has changed.

9 OVERRATED: The Gomu-Gomu No Mi

Here's the thing, fans love the Gomu-Gomu No Mi. A protagonist who is made of rubber and bounces all around sounds amazing. And, for the most part, Luffy completely meets those expectations and even surpasses them with abilities like Gear Second, Third, and Fourth. But, people seem to forget that his fruit is mediocre in comparison to lots of others and that most of the credit should go to Luffy. Having a rubber body is nothing in comparison to being able to control and move at the speed of light. But, that's one of the main reasons One Piece is so great, Luffy's Fruit isn't all there is to his strength it just exemplifies it.

8 UNDERRATED: The Bisu-Bisu No Mi

The overcomplication of the Devil Fruits has been a complaint on the time skip since it was first introduced, but there are some great exceptions. One particular exception is the Special-Class Paramencia that is Charlotte Biscuit's Bisu-Bisu No Mi. It's special because, like Katakuri, Biscuit can create these crackers and manipulate them at will as a Paramecia, which isn't how it usually goes. Charlotte can make incredibly lifelike creatures made of shockingly hard Biscuits that really threw Luffy for a loop.

7 OVERRATED: The Bara-Bara No Mi

For some reason just because Buggy's fruit allows him to fight Dracule Mihawk (one of the strongest Warlords) without taking damage, fans think his Devil Fruit is secretly insanely powerful or something. It's not, even if Buggy himself is one of our favorite characters even we can admit that the Chop-Chop Fruit is super versatile but not very strong.

It's an awesome Fruit to watch in action, and Buggy uses it pretty creatively. However, it's hard to imagine him trying to take on an Admiral or even Blackbeard during the War of The Best with a Fruit like this. Sure The Buggy's Delivery Organization that he creates post-time-skip is powerful, but that's just for money-making reasons and not his own strength, (though Nami might've done well there).

6 UNDERRATED: The Noro-Noro No Mi

This is a real case of an insanely powerful Fruit in the hands of someone undeserving, Foxy the Silver Fox. Foxy's DF allows him to slow any object, person, or anything else as long as his "Noro Noro Beam" hits them. Here's the thing though the Noro Noro Beam is his own invention, and by definition, this DF user should just be able to expel Noroma Photons from their body in any number of ways to slow down their opponent or objects coming at them. It's such an insane power that in the hands of anyone more qualified, it would likely put them at the top of the New World.

5 OVERRATED: The Hobi-Hobi No Mi

Sugar's Fruit, the Hobi-Hobi No Mi, is terrifying in the purest sense, no doubt about that. But, is it the world-endingly powerful ability that fans of the series make it out to be? Probably not. Yes, Sugar doesn't age and neither do the people she turns to toys, yes Sugar can alter memories by turning specific people into toys, and yes she can make the toys do whatever she wants. But, this ability requires that the user never get knocked unconscious and to physically touch whoever they want to change into a toy, while not really having any combat prowess.

4 UNDERRATED: The Doa-Doa No Mi

Out of all the Devil Fruits, Blueno's Doa-Doa No Mi is likely one of the most versatile. This Devil Fruit used by the CP9 agent can create doors on anything, even the air itself. It allows Blueno to travel from place to place instantaneously, and might as well be considered a form of teleportation. Blueno uses this fruit well, but not nearly as well as he could be using it. Think about it this way, Bartolomeo has invincible Barriers thanks to his DF, but with the Door Door Fruit, Blueno would just walk right through. The possibility of this fruit is just endless and fans wish it wasn't wasted so early.

3 OVERRATED: The Suna-Suna No Mi

Crocodile is one of the earliest examples viewers get to see of a Logia-Type Devil Fruit User. Yes, Smoker did come before him, but Crocodile was on a whole other level. Crocodile used his Sand Sand fruit to conqueror an entire nation, and that wasn't all he had planned. But now, looking back on him from the viewpoint of someone past the time skip, the Suna Suna No Mi isn't all too great. For one, sand isn't nearly as scary as fire, magma, or lightning.

Secondly, he's one of the only examples shown of a Logia who can be hit without Haki, and it's when his "sand" is dampened. And lastly, sand isn't exactly everywhere, and Sir Crocodile only got as far as he did thanks to the fact that Alabasta was a Desert Island. Imagine if he tried to pull that stunt on Drum Island.

2 UNDERRATED: The Bari-Bari No Mi

Bartolomeo is one of the strongest pirates around without even trying. He's ruthless in any situation that doesn't involve Luffy, creative in his methods of throwing off his opponents and usage of his DF, and pragmatic as to when he should back out and when he should go all in. But here's the biggest thing about the Bari-Bari No Mi, Bartolomeo barely exerts himself. The guy usually taunts his enemy, lays down, and blocks all their attacks with a barrier or reflects all their damage back. Think about what he could do if he was putting his all into it?

1 OVERRATED: The "Magnetism" Devil Fruit

Lastly, there's one of the pirates of the Worst Generation, Eustass Kid. Kid is a lot more rotten than most other pirates and has a horrible reputation for torturing others. This is likely done through the use of his unnamed Devil Fruit that allows him to control metal (likely with magnetism). So far he's only been shown to use it in two ways, to repel metal in front of him, or to pull a bunch of objects together to create a gigantic makeshift arm to punch with. And, while there is tons of potential for this fruit, there's much that has been unseen. This DF explains why Kid is getting so much more screentime than anyone else in the Worst Generation, especially among all the amazing Wano characters, but there's no way he could put up any sort of a fight against Gear Fourth Luffy.
