One Piece: 5 Other Crews Nami Would Love To Join (& 5 She Would Hate)

It is difficult to imagine any of the Straw Hats joining another crew. They have been through too much together to ever consider changing teams, but that does not mean other crews that fit the characters' personalities do not exist. If One Piece's storyline had played out differently, Nami could have very well ended up sailing under a different flag.

Nami is realistic, greedy, smart, bossy, and driven. Due to being relatively weak for a Straw Hat, Nami generally tries to avoid danger, but she can also be brave if the situation requires it. She would be an asset to most crews, but which ones would be perfect for Nami? Which crews would the navigator hate?

10 Love: Kuja Pirates

During the Seven Warlords of the Sea era, Nami would have jumped at the chance to join Boa Hancock's Kuja pirates. Consisting only of women who live on Amazon Lily, the Kuja Pirates led peaceful lives on a tropical paradise island devoid of men. Once the World Government put an end to the Seven Warlords, the Kuja's peace grew fragile; nowadays, they tend to be on the defensive more so than other crews that traverse the open sea.

Although Nami would be more hesitant to join the Kuja in its current state, the navigator would still appreciate the crew's solidarity and desire for a quieter existence. That said, she might not be all that fond of the Kuja's heavy focus on training.

9 Hate: Thriller Bark Pirates

With the exception of the Arlong Pirates, there is not a crew in One Piece Nami would avoid joining more than Gecko Moria's Thriller Bark Pirates. During the Thriller Bark arc, Absalom came very close to forcibly marrying Nami, an incident that likely did not endear the crew to the navigator.

Even if that storyline were to be erased, Nami would spend the majority of her time with the Thriller Park Pirates trying to suppress her fear of the undead and bugs. It would be a neverending nightmare, although Nami might eventually befriend Perona.

8 Love: Red Hair Pirates

Considering Luffy is at least partially inspired by Shanks, the Red Hair Pirates are not too far removed from the Straw Hats. One Piece has only provided glimpses of Shanks' crew, but they are powerful, generally good-natured, and respected. They love to have fun and have the resources to go all out, two things Nami would appreciate.

A crew as established as the Red Hair Pirates definitely have a great navigator, but Nami might very well be the best in the game. The one thing that could cause Nami to rethink joining is that Shanks' crew does not seem to have any women, although they might be introduced later down the line.

7 Hate: Blackbeard Pirates

Obvious as it may seem to suggest Nami would never contemplate becoming one of Marshall D. Teach's subordinates, the Blackbeard Pirates are not completely different from the Straw Hats. Along with having parallel histories, both crews are led by charismatic captains who believe in dreams and, more importantly, respect their underlings. Blackbeard might be a despicable person, but he is far from a terrible captain. In fact, he is a great one.

That said, Nami would never be able to accept Teach's ruthless actions and willingness to do anything to obtain more power.

6 Love: Rolling Pirates

The Rolling Pirates do not have a particularly great track-record in One Piece, as they tend to need rescuing quite often. If Nami were to join this crew, she would rank among its strongest members. Spending three years under Gecko Moira's shadow, the Rolling Pirates faced plenty of hardships but stuck together through it all. This a crew defined by loyalty and friendship, with the Rolling Pirates' captain, Charlotte Lola, even forming a connection with Nami.

In truth, Nami would prefer to join a more powerful crew that could hold its own against the worst pirates in the New World. Nevertheless, she could do much worse than the Rolling Pirates.

5 Hate: Germ Pirates

Only appearing briefly in a cover story, the Germ Pirates are perhaps the most stereotypical crew in One Piece. They exist to plunder vulnerable islands and spread chaos, but they are not much of a threat if faced directly. Nami's love of riches means she would not be against joining a crew that prioritizes earning Belly; however, for the navigator, the ends do not justify the means.

Through her history with Arlong, Nami experienced what it is like to feel powerless in the face of an invasion by pirates. She would never do that to somebody else.

4 Love: Buggy's Delivery (Or The Buggy & Alvida Alliance)

Once upon a time, Nami would have laughed at the mere notion of joining a crew led by Buggy. However, the clown pirate's reputation has skyrocketed following the timeskip, even if it is not fully earned. Buggy's Delivery is an organization devoted entirely to making money in a way that generally does not require its leaders to be put in harm's way.

Nami's intelligence and maturity would be valued by the organization, while the navigator should not find it too difficult to maximize her profits by manipulating Buggy.

3 Hate: Beasts Pirates

The Beasts Pirates take what they want by force. Sure, that might describe most pirate crews, but that is especially true for Kaido's expansive fleet. Nami is nowhere near as powerful as any of the Beasts' strongest members, so she would just be a face in the crowd. Her navigation skills would also not buy her too much respect from the crew.

Then there is also the fact that members of the Beasts Pirates are "encouraged" to eat SMILE fruits to gain artificial powers. Nami would have to do this for her own survival, which could see her gain some animal features.

2 Love: Whitebeard Pirates

The Whitebeard Pirates shared such an unshakable bond that Blackbeard's betrayal was unheard of. While they have since disbanded and their peak arguably took place prior to One Piece's starting point, Whitebeard's crew was still nothing short of amazing.

Nami would not stand out too much if she were to pledge allegiance to this flag, especially since she was still quite weak and inexperienced while the Whitebeard Pirates were active. Be that as it may, the navigator would find comfort in the crew's impressive strength.

1 Hate: Golden Lion Pirates

Technically, Nami joined the Golden Lion Pirates in One Piece: Strong World; however, the films are not considered canon, so Nami never officially became part of Shiki's crew. Even if she were not kidnapped and forced to join the Golden Lion Pirates like in the movie, Nami would still struggle to get on the same page as Shiki the Golden Lion.

More than anything, Nami yearns to feel safe and in control. She spent too many years under Arlong's thumb to follow another destructive captain with little regard for life. Nami would be constantly on edge around the volatile Shiki, and she would not be able to resort to a punch to the head whenever the Golden Lion's captain goes too far.
