One Piece: 5 Ways Luffy Has Gotten Stronger After Learning Ryou (& 5 Ways He Is The Same)

Luffy is one of the strongest characters in the world of One Piece right now, especially after having learned the concept of flowing Ryou in the Land of Wano. Currently, Luffy is preparing to take on Kaido in a massive battle on Onigashima after already having lost to him once.

This time, Luffy hopes for the results to be reversed as there are several things that have changed in the short span during which he trained his powers. Here are 5 ways in which Luffy has gotten stronger after learning Ryou and 5 in which he's still the same as before.

10 Better: Less Haki Wastage

Luffy learned the concept of using Haki during the two-year time-skip under Rayleigh's guidance. While he gained a good hold of this power, Rayleigh only managed to teach him the basics of it. It takes years to refine this power and prevent unnecessary wastage of this power.

Luffy only managed to learn how to better control his Haki upon learning Ryou under the guidance of Hyougoro. With this, Luffy can now focus all his Haki at one point and make much better use of this skill.

9 Same: Observation Haki

Luffy has great control over his regular Observation Haki skills. Throughout his journey in the New World, his Observation Haki has been constantly improving, however, at Udon, this particular power of his wasn't trained.

In terms of Observation Haki, Luffy is still the same as he was during his first fight against Kaido in Kuri. However, like every other Haki type, this power will likely improve while facing strong enemies.

8 Better: Gear Fourth Control

Gear Fourth is a special form that Luffy came up with during the two-year time-skip. It focuses on combining his Devil Fruit power with the maximum output of his Armament Haki. Upon the first few usages of this power, Luffy wasn't able to maintain it for long.

In Onigashima, Luffy managed to use it several times without showing fatigue, showcasing the massive improvement in his usage of this power, likely due to better Armament Haki.

7 Same: Physical Strength

When it comes to physical strength, Luffy mainly relies on his Gear Fourth form as it provides incredible raw power that's enough to push back even a Yonko, as seen during his clash against Kaido where he sent him flying with a Kong Organ, although the latter sustained no damage at all.

While Haki does improve his ability to hurt Devil Fruit users and his offensive output, his true physical power is still the same. In terms of his raw power output, not much has changed.

6 Better: Stronger Armament Haki

Since most of Luffy's time in Udon was focused on bettering his Armament Haki powers, he's come a long way since the first time he clashed against Kaido.

The levels of Armament Haki were first mentioned by Charlotte Katakuri during his fight with Luffy and back then, Luffy's Armament Haki was inferior to that of the Sweet Commander. Now, it has likely improved quite a lot and is on a whole different level when compared to most characters in the story.

5 Same: Conqueror's Haki

Conqueror's Haki is a power that only a handful of people in the world of One Piece possess. Only those who possess qualities of a King are known to have access to it, such as Luffy himself.

While this power is tremendous, it cannot be specifically trained like Armament or Observation Haki. The only way for Conqueror's Haki to get stronger is by the user getting stronger themselves. Luffy's Ryou training focused specifically on his Armament Haki and thus hasn't affected his Conqueror's Haki much.

4 Better: Haki Emission

The concept of Ryou focuses on the ability to focus Haki at one point and make it flow through it over short distances. This power was first demonstrated by Sentomaru, followed by Boa Marigold, the Three Admirals, and then by Rayleigh himself.

Luffy didn't know how to use it until recently, and only after his severe training under Hyougoro did he manage to gain access to it.

3 Same: Future Sight

Future Sight is an advanced form of Observation Haki that can only be used by those who have taken this power beyond all the limits, such as the strongest Sweet Commander of the Charlotte family, Katakuri. Luffy picked up this ability from his fight against Katakuri and has, since then, continued to train it.

However, his skill with Future Sight is most likely not any different from before all his training at Udon since that's not the power that he trained there.

2 Better: Advanced Ryou

Along with acquiring the power to emit Ryou from one point of his body, Luffy also gained knowledge of an advanced form of this power that destroys the target from the inside out by penetrating their bodies.

In time, he managed to get a hang of this power and as seen during the raid on Kaido's castle, he seems to have mastered it to the fullest. This power of his will likely keep improving over time.

1 Same: Devil Fruit Usage

Luffy's control over the Gomu Gomu no Mi is quite good and in time, he'll manage to awaken his powers as well. However, that time isn't now and his skill with his Devil Fruit abilities hasn't changed after training his Ryou at Udon.

While there is no doubt that he'll improve the usage of this power in the future, right now, it is the same as it was when he stepped foot in the land of Wano.
