Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Makes a Huge Change to Naruto's Family — For the Better

A major downfall in the Boruto series has been Himawari Uzumaki's lack of development. Most of the property has focused on Boruto and his dad, Naruto, but this repeats a big mistake from the past. Characters such as Sakura and Hinata weren't done justice, which has resulted in the new era scrambling to pad them as main characters. To this day, outside the spinoffs, it's tough to digest them as Sasuke and Naruto's wives, respectfully, as that foundation just wasn't established years back.

Unfortunately, the Boruto story has placed Himawari in the background once more, barely touching on her training. It's left Naruto's family feeling a bit lop-sided and one-dimensional. Some of her development has been seen with the other half of her family – the Hyūga clan –- but she's been peripheral to say the least. However, this family dynamic is set to change thanks to the time-jump in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, where Himawari seems destined for a much bigger role with her brother and parents.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Is Making Himawari a Soulful Warrior

Himawari is found training with Chōchō three years after Eida's reality rewrite. She's excelling with her Byakugan powers, and while she loses the sparring session, she looks like she'll be a badass shinobi. Interestingly, she doesn't seem intent on hunting or killing Boruto. She feels sorry that he resorted to killing her mom and dad, which is the narrative Eida implanted in everyone's minds when she messed with their memories.

Instead, Himawari shows compassion and empathy, sensing Boruto still has good in him. She knows she can redeem this enemy of the Hidden Leaf. It flips the past, where she felt this for Kawaki, hating how people considered the lost soul a reject and outsider. Admittedly, this is mixed in with her love for Boruto as well, affirming she doesn't want the black sheep of Konoha to die. She can tell, despite him being a rogue, he can be rescued and saved.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Flips the Naruto-Sasuke Dynamic

What's intriguing about Himawari's actions here is how strongly she believes Boruto isn't the villain everyone assumes he is. It nods to how Naruto kept harping that Sasuke could be found and made to atone when they were teens. Naruto did just that, going on to become Konoha's Hokage. Sasuke has always been grateful for that faith, and Boruto is setting Himawari up for the same journey.

She's evolving into this young ninja who'll defy the odds like her dad. Other younglings such as Inojin and Shikadai don't understand, but Himawari feels it in her very fabric. It proves she's her father's daughter. Luckily, her belief that Boruto is a hero can pay off because he knows about Eida's spell, and has no reason to harm his sister the way Sasuke did in the Naruto dynamic. It sets up an emotive showdown to come as he'll try to show her the truth, pushing Himawari to find a solution for everyone.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Could Make Himawari the Trump Card

Sarada and Sumire are impervious to Eida's charms, and Kawaki is already looking to ensure this façade is permanent, and he remains the 'prince' of the Hidden leaf. Eida, herself, is monitoring the girls. She's got her clairvoyant vision and a "god's eye" that can spy in on them anytime, anywhere. Plus, she's got her little brother, Daemon, to help keep close watch. However, Himawari could unlock more secrets of the Byakugan.

These eyes could break the hold, make her invulnerable and maybe even, find Hinata and Naruto. Himawari feels that natural connection to her parents, and given the Byakugan is best for detecting chakra paths, she's got a radar in her brain that needs to be brought into the narrative. This would once again emphasize her clan's strength, as the series has mostly focused on the Ōtsutsuki, Uchiha, and Uzumakis in the present. Not to mention, it'll bring this Byakugan Dōjutsu into focus again, after so much focused has been placed on Sasuke and Sarada's Rinnegan and Sharingan.

Himawari can head to the moon to free Toneri, using him as someone who respects the Hyūgas to help reverse the charm. He'd want to ensure his own Ōtsutsuki aliens don't reappear again, so providing help to stop Kawaki's reign and curing Boruto of the Momoshiki possession would align with what Himawari would hope to do once she learns the full details. She's quite resourceful too, so if she needs aid, she's smart enough to mine Konoha's history and learn where to go.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Can Heal Boruto & Himawari Permanently

All of this allows Himawari to become the ultimate savior. Rescuing her parents and paving the way to finding and healing Boruto's issues would truly turn her from the underdog into a messiah. It'd add much needed female empowerment to the plot too. In addition, it'd really feel organic to the plot given her bloodline. But most of all, it'd fix Boruto's relationship with her.

He's often neglected his kid sister. He does love her, but he's busy on missions or lapping up the celebrity life. This would remind him what he lost, what love and family truly means, and how Himawari never gave up on him: even if she didn't fully grasp their ethereal bond. It might show Kawaki the light at the end of the tunnel and act as a "Talk No Jutsu" of sorts whereby the Himawari who's always cared for him displays the love he needs to cleanse his own hatred.

He'd learn why he shouldn't manipulate folks, especially someone as genuine as her into thinking she's his sister. This adds more heart and soul to the conflict at hand. Ultimately, Himawari has potential to be that anchor and pure, true blue hero for all, leaving fans hoping she gets her time to shine and restore normalcy to the franchise.
