Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Teases the Evolution of the Rasengan In a Scary Way

As Boruto continued the story from the Naruto franchise, many fans were curious to see how the Hokage's son would evolve. He'd been working with Sasuke, with some training sessions from Naruto thrown in occasionally to build that father-son banter. No matter who the mentor was, though, Boruto seemed like he'd become a powerhouse as he was at a higher level than Naruto was at his kid's age.

Interestingly, the three-year time skip in Two Blue Vortex had these same loyalists wondering what else Boruto would learn. Desperate times called for desperate measures after Eida's reality rewrite, so it seemed like he'd have to get more cutthroat on the run with Sasuke. The second chapter teases a big evolution with one particular move: the Rasengan. It feels like it'll be an even bigger weapon of mass destruction.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Has a Mysterious Rasengan

The Rasengan is the energy bomb held in one's fist — created by Naruto's father, Minato. It's an atomic bomb the likes of Kakashi, Konohamaru, and Naruto worked on, with the latter perfecting it. He could use clones to create more bombs, strengthen one to nuclear levels, and take out cliffs and forests with it. Naruto made it more powerful, although it would take so much chakra that he needed to be in Sage Mode to truly save his energy.

Boruto worked on the invisible version, having it disappear and reappear just when opponents thought it fizzed out as he chucked it at them. It played on Sasuke's stealth and how the Uchiha generally operated. Now, Chapter 2 has Boruto trying to fight Code with this technique. The villain laughs, though, when Boruto calls down the Rasengan. Code thinks he's ready for it since he's seen it all before. In their scraps, Boruto admittedly struggled to hit Code with it because Code would keep using his teleporting technique and bands.

However, as the chapter closes, fans noticed a swirling vortex around Boruto. It seems that either he's become the Rasengan or that his body is gearing up to emit various bombs that the human eye can't see. The fact that Boruto's so cool, calm, and collected says it all — as if he knows Code won't be able to view what's coming to counter. If so, Boruto will have the element of surprise, spoiling Code's ability to predict and disappear.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Could Be Remixing a Sasuke Move

What has fans thinking Boruto's body will become the Rasengan is the fact Sasuke has been with him for so long, working in the shadows. It's all due to the Chidori Current or Chidori Nagashi. In Naruto lore, the Chidori was a lightning move Kakashi taught Sasuke, allowing him to turn his fist into lightning. He could cut through anything or anyone with it. In time, Sasuke evolved the move, allowing electrical fields to be shot out of his entire body.

Sasuke became a Chidori field, even able to send the blasts through the ground a la Mortal Kombat's Raiden or Marvel's Thor. This was an offensive move, but it was also defensive, shielding Sasuke. It hinged on Sasuke wanting to make his body and very existence a tool of death and destruction. It's one of the deadliest lightning releases ever, working at long and short range. Thus, it looks like Sasuke has taught Boruto to fuse this move to his body, as the swirling vortex and turbulence in nature are symptomatic of when the Rasengan starts to harness the power of the wind.

It has folks eager to see how it'll tie into the vanishing Rasengan, the shockwave of the blast, the toll it'll take on Boruto's body, and if he has indeed unlocked Sage Mode like Naruto. Boruto has an arrogant, cold air to him, making it clear that Code has underestimated him — so much so that Boruto is promising he's going to kill Code if the villain doesn't retract the Claw Grime army. Boruto is quite eager to destroy the Ten Tails that Code has, hinting he has indeed leveled up massively, and this Rasengan is something no one can prep for.

In his brief chat with Code, it does feel like Boruto has a ton more secret moves he cooked up. It's a nod to when Sasuke left Konoha, vowing to destroy the Hidden Leaf and rule the world. He changed up his genjutsu moves, refined the Sharingan and Rinnegan in a way not even Itachi could dream of, and made the likes of Obito, Madara, Kaguya, Isshiki, and the other Ōtsutsuki aliens in due time tremble with fear. It tied to his intuition, inventiveness, and innovative mind — things Kakashi always knew would make him the best with Naruto.

Now, with Sasuke in solitude, he'd have all the time in the world to sharpen Boruto as a dagger. Knowing Kawaki had Eida mind-control everyone too would give Sasuke extra motivation as he'd want to fix reality and get back to Sarada and Sakura. As such, there's no telling what he could have changed with Boruto's shadow clone technique if he taught Boruto to harness Hinata's ocular powers or what else they unlocked from Momoshiki being inside the teen.

Ultimately, that's a lot of power for a darker Boruto to tap into — way more than Naruto had when he was a vessel for Kurama (the Nine-Tails Demon Fox). This is an enticing prospect, fashioning Boruto not just as a host to Momoshiki but as a true vehicle of chaos. Hopefully, he still has the light of Naruto inside mentally. Still, what's for certain, Boruto may be at a scary peak physically, with the Rasengan to come being the true indicative litmus test.
