Chainsaw Man Fans Are Disappointed With MAPPA's Lack of Season 2 Updates

The Chainsaw Man anime ended its previous season on a cliffhanger, leaving many fans thirsty for more of the series. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation that the anime will continue at the time of writing. However, a recent interview with the CEO of MAPPA (Manabu Otsuka) stated that they were still eager to find success for it, despite claiming that it underperformed from their expectations. "We will explore how to approach the target audience who will pay money for the work of CSM," said Otsuka.

How MAPPA Included Chainsaw Man in Its Live Event

While MAPPA gave no updates on the series, the show still provided some content for fans. This included a segment where the voice cast of the main trio -- Kikonusuke Toya (Denji), Ai Fairouz (Power) and Shogo Sakata (Aki) -- discussed their favorite moments from the anime. Tomori Kusunoki, the voice actor behind Makima, was also slated to appear but had to pull out of the show due to illness. Additionally, a giant mascot version of the Devil-Dog Pochita also made an appearance.

MAPPA's stage show showed updates for some of the company's most prominent properties. For example, a trailer was unveiled for the upcoming second season of CSM's fellow "Dark Trio" member Jujutsu Kaisen. Additionally, the currently airing Viking epic Vinland Saga received a trailer that gave a synopsis of the story so far and a tease of the upcoming Season 2 finale. Attack on Titan also received a new key visual. Finally, a new original anime project named Bucchigiri?! was revealed.

Chainsaw Man follows a young man named Denji, who becomes the titular hero after fusing with his pet devil dog. He soon joins Public Safety as a devil hunter and uses his new powers as a human-devil hybrid to appease the will of the mysterious Makima. Studio MAPPA adapted the manga, written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, in 2022 and received generally positive reviews.

The series is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Additionally, fans can read the manga on the Viz media website, with Chapter 130 set to release on May 23, 2023.
