Demon Slayer Board-Game-Style Video Game Coming To Switch In 2024

Sega recently announced the board-game-style video game Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Sweep the Board!

Sega, which published the arena fighter tie-in game Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, is returning to the franchise again for an all-new offering more akin to Mario Party than the typical anime video game. Sweep the Board! puts up to four players on a board together, where they roll dice to move across the board and compete in mini-games and board events to come out on top with the most loot.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Sweep the Board! features 12 playable characters from the anime, such as main characters Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, as well as nine of the famous Hashira swordsmen. Fan-favorite Nezuko, Tanjiro's younger sister, is featured as a supporting character but is not playable. Aside from the variety of playable characters available, the game also includes several unique boards based on locations from the anime, as well as a day-night cycle that changes the way some of the in-game events play out.

Sweep the Board! also has online multiplayer functionality, giving players the ability to face off with online friends or random players through the game's matchmaking system. For those wishing to go solo, the game also features a single-player mode, allowing bots to take the place of human players.

Demon Slayer is a manga and anime series by author Koyoharu Gotouge that tells the story of Tanjiro, a charcoal merchant who loses his entire family to an attack from supernatural demons who kill and consume humans. When his sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon and he is left as the sole survivor, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps and swears to become a master swordsman, known as the Hashira, in order to find a way to turn her back.

Premiering in the weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2016, Demon Slayer saw almost instant success as it made its way to the United States two years later, where it has continued to be one of the best-selling manga in the market up until its finale in 2021. The anime series based on the manga has seen even bigger success, spawning three seasons, two high-budget, theatrically-released animated films, and even a stage play.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! releases in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch. Sega has not revealed any plans for ports to other platforms, which are unlikely due to the game's use of the Switch Joycon's motion control functionality
