How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

As Chainsaw Man's first season proceeded, Denji found life with the Public Safety Unit in Japan much more tedious than assumed. He thought he'd breeze through military duty, kill Devils and demons, get paid and move in on his boss, Makima. However, the job turned out to be quite difficult, which led to heroes like Himeno dying when the Samurai Sword (aka Katana Man) led an ambush against Denji's crew.

Luckily, Denji rose above and unlocked more power, as well as the humanity within to combat the opposition and stop the first wave. It helps that he's got Kobeni to aid him, as well as Hayakawa -- a tutor who finally believes in Denji, despite battling his own depression over Himeno's death. Throw in the raucous Power, and Denji finally has the family he needs to emotionally steel up. Interestingly, with clues seeded out regarding the person who hired the Sword, aka the Gun Devil, many threads have been laid down to tease an equally bloody second season.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 Has to Address Pochita's Door

How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Denji ended Season 1 of Chainsaw Man at peace after severely beating up the Sword, but he keeps seeing a mysterious door in his dreams. It's connected to his and Pochita's bond, but while Denji is interested in opening it, the pooch begs him not to. This hints the stubborn Denji will try to do so in Season 2, which could grant him more of Pochita's power -- or worse, reveal the dog's true nature.

It could reveal Pochita's a destroyer, suppressing its corrupting instincts, which might poison Denji and cause him to break bad. Either way, Season 2 will definitely dive into temptation and whether Denji is meant to be more than just a heroic vessel. If so, he could lose himself and become a threat that not even his peers or Makima can stop. This may well lead to major bombshells over why Denji's heart is being sought after by enemies, and his Devil's true intentions.

Chainsaw Man's Gun Devil Hunt Will Get Messy

How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Makima was lucky to garner more of the Gun's flesh from the hotel that the Sword and Sawatari stayed at. She's able to use her team to track the villain, and hopefully bring the terrorist down for good. This can bring more of Makima in for a direct hunt, allowing her to cut loose with her abilities. More so, the hunt will reveal if Makima is truly a hero, whether she's using the corps for her own sinister purposes, and if Japan can be trusted.

It's hinted that Russia, Asia and the Americas are jostling for power, so her choices in Chainsaw Man Season 2 might unravel political conspiracies and dark truths behind all these wars being fought, with the Gun at the heart of it. If so, it'll leave Denji, Hayakawa and Co. wondering if they picked the right side. Interestingly, the Suicide Squad-like team of colleagues with Angel, Shark etc. might turn on Team Denji, if they think the heroes don't want to get with the program and do anything to keep Japan on top.

Chainsaw Man Has to Level Up Denji & Power

How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Denji was lucky to have tricked Sword in battle, unlocking a saw from his leg to cut the tyrant up. This means he's got untapped potential for their new teacher, Kishibe, to harness. Power also has to improve turning her blood into daggers and such, as she's got limitations over how much she can use. This paves the way for Kishibe to use the recent victory, buoy them and free up their minds, so they can physically be better in battle.

All they need is confidence, and seeing as Hayakawa is being more of a big brother than a handler, this augurs well. Akin to Denji tapping into Pochita's power, Power will have to be careful; a lot remains unknown about the Blood Fiend she made a pact with. If Kishibe pushes her too hard, she might become possessed, allowing the contract to convert her to a weapon of mass destruction. Of course, it's a risk Kishibe is willing to take since he just wants badass soldiers, which could see him becoming shadier.

Chainsaw Man Will Unleash New and Old Villains

How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Season 1 of Chainsaw Man ended with the tease of Reze (aka the Bomb Girl) targeting Denji. Without spoiling too much, she worked Denji's crush on her in the manga, so Denji might find his attention shifting from Makima, throwing him off his game. This can provide Reze and other despicable Devils/Fiends, like the yet-to-be-seen Typhoon Devil, a major advantage. In addition, with Sawatari being eaten by the Snake to keep Gun's secrets intact, that means Snake might attach itself to some of these other enemies, giving Denji some dynamic new foes down the line.

There's even the chance that Sword, who's now in custody, gets rescued. Gun would want revenge for Denji killing his kin, battering his precious body parts and putting him in jail. So it's easy to see Sword leveling up, working with other villains and doing everything to become Gun's ultimate apprentice, especially as he usually kicks Denji's butt in the field. No matter what, Gun has many minions and hybrids to seed out to help Sword, hinting that Denji's explosive journey is only just beginning.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 Might Break Hayakawa

How Chainsaw Man Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Hayakawa is obsessed with hunting Gun for killing his family, and then sending Sawatari to end Himeno. Still, while he seems happy with Denji and Power, a big part of Hayakawa is lingering in the darkness. Season 2 of Chainsaw Man now has to assess the deal he made with the Future Devil, and how will affect him since the monster knows when Hayakawa will die.

In essence, this death sentence means Hayakawa's clock is ticking down, which could end with him making rash decisions to attain retribution. It could even damage his bond with his 'siblings,' push him to sign other contracts with creatures outside the Fox, and unravel desperate inner fragments the agent always tried to keep buried. Ultimately, it's going to be a mental and physical test for the swordsman, which might require Denji and Power to mature and transition into Hayakawa's caretaker.
