Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Returns August 31 for New Arc

Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident Arc's new teaser trailer proves that not even Gojo Satoru is safe.

Gojo gets personally namedropped by Geto, highlighting a core focus of the second cour of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. The second cour will span 18 episodes and round out the season with a total of 23 episodes. Keeping with the short and snappy naming conventions, the Shibuya Incident Arc represents a huge turning point for the Jujutsu practitioners, giving fans no time to rest after the emotional whirlwind of the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Arc. Tatsuya Kitani's "Ao no Sumika" - the theme song for the first cour is replaced by King Gnu's "Specialz". This marks a continuation of their collaboration after Jujutsu Kaisen 0's "Sakayume" (Contradictory Dream) and "Ichizu" (The Only Way) which were both performed by the band.

Shibuya Incident Arc debuts on the 31st for fans but the 31st also marks a significant date in the anime. October 31 is the day that Geto commences his plan to seal Gojo. "As for Gojo Satoru, at the right time... At the right place..." Geto introduced the ominous trailer, before proceeding to outline that with his advantage he indeed aims to seal Gojo - the veteran Jujutsu practitioner, and former best friend.

Gojo's Title Has Transformed

Gojo's resolve will be put to the test in the Shibuya Incident Arc, continuing on from the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Arc. The last arc was short but served to underscore Gojo's growth as a person, justifying decisions like why he protected Yuji even after the order to kill him. Fans were able to empathize with the pressures of being a Jujutsu practitioner, providing a more human side to Geto, as well as appreciating how Gojo's title of "The Strongest" has morphed into a duty to protect the weak.

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen continues to be one of the most successful manga of its generation. Drawing praise from fans and even fellow mangaka like One Piece's Eiichiro Oda, many fans are saying that season 2 already surpasses the highs of season 1.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident Arc debuts on August 31, 2023.
