10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

When it was announced Boruto would have a time-skip, fans were curious how the young shinobi would fare under Sasuke. Naruto's son had to flee Konoha after Eida's reality rewrite, which allowed Kawaki to take control of the Hidden Leaf. Sasuke promised Sarada he'd protect and level up Boruto, reaffirming they'd reset existence along the way.

Now, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex picks up the journey three years later. Two issues in, Boruto's comeback for a brawl against Code and the Claw Grime, eager to free Konoha from Code's threat and Kawaki's iron fist. However, given Boruto's harsh disposition, there are quite a few reasons Sasuke shouldn't be the person helping him to evolve any more.

10 Sasuke Still Has A Cynical Disposition

When they became fugitives, Sasuke still had his cynical disposition of old. He couldn't believe Eida was manipulating things, nor could he believe Kawaki was using his Ōtsutsuki powers for evil. This threw Sasuke back into an untrusting mode from the Shippuden era.

That skeptical Sasuke exuded a negative energy. And more so, he felt killing was the ultimate solution to all life's problems. It might be that Eida's tampering rejigged this trait of Sasuke's character again, making Boruto much darker in the apprenticeship.

9 Sasuke Relies On Deadly Weapons

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

A bitter Sasuke usually relies on much more dangerous weapons. As a teen, he evolved Kakashi's lightning blade, the Chidori, into the Chidori Nagashi. It could electrocute people in a giant lightning field. Plus, Sasuke rocked his sword as the older Uchiha Ranger, adamant he needed extreme measures to protect the outskirts.

Boruto seems to be adopting this policy. Boruto has a new Rasengan, which looks like a weapon of mass destruction. It nods to Sasuke's belief that collateral damage was okay, once the job got done — something Kakashi and Naruto warned him about.

8 Sasuke Doesn't Understand War & Politics

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

Sasuke has never been a student when it comes to war and politics. He's much more emotional and likes to act first, then think. It's why he knew he could never be Hokage, nor would anyone consider him for the role. The Ranger fits his bill, but he's just not meant for diplomacy.

If he passes this mentality down to Boruto, there'll be trouble to come. Boruto has to understand strategy because other villages are after him, as well as Code. A lot of politics are in play as Boruto hides out around various regions, so he should have someone teaching him who's versed in the art of peace, as opposed to someone whose first instinct is to fight.

7 Sasuke Has a Killer's Edge Toward Kawaki

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

When Sasuke learned Kawaki had the Ōtsutsuki mark in him, he wanted to kill the boy. Naruto asked Sasuke to show restraint, but now that Sasuke regrets it, he could pass this killer instinct to Boruto. Sasuke would think it's in the interest of the greater good and that desperate times call for desperate measures.

But if Boruto takes the lead and murders Kawaki, as the time-skip teases, there's no telling what the aftereffects will be. Reality may not be fixed as Kawaki is the one who has to give Eida the instructions. Sasuke has made these bad decisions in the past regarding murder, so one can only hope Boruto doesn't dim his human side for his teacher, only to rue the consequences.

6 Sasuke Isn't As Good As Konohamaru Or Mirai

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

Mirai is Asuma's daughter and someone who wants to be Hokage. Konohamaru is Sarutobi Hiruzen's grandson and another aspiring Hokage. More so, both actually mentored Boruto in the past, using warmth, compassion, and empathy as guiding lights.

Thus, it feels like the narrative is making a huge mistake by not letting them work with this older Boruto at some point. It'd give either one of these senior-nin greater purpose, and a path towards leadership. They'd also help Boruto temper his rage as opposed to a dour Sasuke, who took some time to understand what a hero really means.

5 Sasuke Doesn't Deserve A Teaching Spot

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

Sasuke really hasn't done anything to warrant a role teaching the new generation. He is, after all, part villain in the history books. Sasuke influencing the young shinobi is a risk because he tried to destroy the village.

This role should go to warriors like Shikamaru, the new Hokage, or Sai, Ino, and Sakura. It's worth noting Sasuke killed many casualties along the way, working with Orochimaru, the Akatsuki, Taka, and such. Helping Sarada does make sense, as she's his daughter. But Boruto should be partnered with someone more altruistic and who didn't try to end the era of peace decades ago.

4 Sasuke's Cold Personality Harms Friends

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

When Sasuke was a spoiled brat, he often harmed his friends — mentally and physically. Sakura, of all people, knows about this, hence why their background has been kept secret from Sarada at times. Many would remember how often Sasuke tried to kill other teens, even when he didn't really hate them.

He just did whatever was needed to advance his revenge and overall agenda. If he passes this mentality down to Boruto, then Naruto's son might harm Mitsuki, endanger Sarada, and maybe even damage others like Inojin and Shikadai. Boruto could see the mission as the only thing in his lens, which would cause people to lose faith in him the way they did Sasuke.

3 Sasuke Is Missing Out On Time With Sarada

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

When Sasuke mentored Sarada, he felt vulnerable, real, and heartwarming. He exposed more of his family secrets to her, as well as insecurities along the way. These made Sasuke more human and like someone deserving of atonement.

But if he sticks to the professional life and not the personal one, it'll damage his development. Sasuke with Boruto just feels too cruel, with both honing each other's skills. But Sasuke with Sarada has them both feeling like actual people. The latter creates more emotional attachment than a version of Sasuke who's just a weapon and tutorial book.

2 Sasuke Isn't Of Sound Mind

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

When Eida changed the world, something seemed off with Sasuke. It's as if he regressed back to the ninja who wanted control, even if it meant harming Naruto. Thus, if Sasuke is mentally unfit, Boruto should have recognized and ceased training with him.

Sasuke may well be jeopardizing Boruto with bad or biased advice. This hurts his character too, as it could be misconstrued he's selfish again. It might walk back all Sasuke's progress and possibly even shape a new persona according to which enemies he kills, including if it's innocents from nearby lands who are under Eida's thumb as well.

1 Sasuke Lacks That Signature Dad Energy

10 Reasons Sasuke Isn't the Right Mentor For Boruto

Sasuke shines best when he feels like a father in the modern era. Right now, though, it feels like he's viewing Boruto as a tool. If he sharpens Boruto and operates like a robot, folks will stop rooting for him. Sasuke, after all, may not care about risks towards Boruto, or ripple effects to the outward community.

He could unleash an angry Boruto, ignoring the damage that could occur because he'd view the boy as a weapon and not a person. Ultimately, this puts too many at risk — when Sasuke still kept Boruto in mind as a son, he'd realize he has to take the less violent route.
