Attack on Titan Creator Potentially Creating New Franchise Entry

It appears as though Attack on Titan might be getting a new piece of lore from series creator Hajime Isayama.

Currently, the Attack on Titan anime is about to debut its final episode in November. The "final season" has been repeatedly broken up into multiple parts to ensure that the "final stories" get told in full, although fans didn’t know ahead of time that said breaks were coming. With the upcoming November release, the AoT anime will be completed. However, a new development now indicates that Isayama might be continuing the story, albeit perhaps in a different direction.

Attack on Titan Reborn?

Attack on Titan Creator Potentially Creating New Franchise Entry

As noted by ComicBook.com, an Attack on Titan New Complete Illustrations Artbook is set to arrive next April. That alone wouldn't normally mean anything. However, within the book will be 18 pages of new material by Isayama, which has apparently been dubbed "Volume 35" of the manga series. It is unclear what that implies regarding new stories or new material. In the past, Isayama has noted that he might be interested in continuing the story in the world he created, but he never said definitively in what way. For example, he pondered possibly diving deeper into the story of Levi Ackerman, one of the show’s standout characters.

However, it’s also possible that, like many manga from the past, Isayama might try and do a "sequel series" that follows the events of the main story. At present, this information is unknown. There's also another possibility that many fans have brought up: an "alternate ending" to the Attack on Titan story. This possibility has been considered because the main ending to the manga was deemed incredibly controversial. Even the creator himself admitted that he didn’t intend for such backlash to happen, which was so strong that some wonder if the upcoming anime finale might take a different route entirely.

Regardless, Isayama's series has helped change the perception of anime worldwide. For example, when it first came out, Attack on Titan's brutal and mature tones drew more people into anime as a whole and helped breathe new life into the medium, particularly of shonen-based stories. Some even herald Attack on Titan as the catalyst behind the "anime boom" that occurred over the last decade. Its impact is so great that the finale will doubtless be hyped up until its premiere.

The Attack on Titan anime finale will arrive on November 4th.
