New Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash Game Trailer Reveals Release Date

A video game based on the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series from Bandai Namco Entertainment finally has a trailer and an official release date.

Bandai Namco shared the trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash on YouTube and social media, which demonstrates the game's core PvP mechanics and reveals a release date of Feb. 2, 2024. The game is an arena-based PvP fighting game with a slight variation on matchmaking, as it pairs players up in teams of two to take on opponents as some of their favorite characters.

According to the trailer, the game offers a variety of playable characters, including Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki and even Panda, the talking panda bear, among 12 other key characters from the anime to choose from. Offering both offline and online co-op battles, Cursed Clash gives players the ability to create their own teams of Jujutsu sorcerers to form unique matchups with team-based movesets and abilities.

As for the story, Cursed Clash will reportedly adapt key scenarios from the original anime's most famous story arcs -- notably, the "Curse Womb Must Die" and "The Origin of Blind Obedience" arcs -- which feature several major climactic battles. Some story elements from the prequel manga Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will also appear in some form, according to the developers.

The game is set to release with multiple versions, the Digital Deluxe and Collector's editions, with each offering exclusive content or merchandise. Digital Deluxe Edition buyers will gain access to story content from the "Hidden Inventory/Premature Death" arc of the anime along with a digital art book, soundtrack and in-game cosmetics based on the anime's first animated opening sequence. Collector's Edition buyers will receive the same content along with an exclusive wall scroll featuring characters from the anime, though it is only available on Bandai Namco's official online store.

Bandai Namco has made a name for itself as a publisher of high-budget anime tie-in titles based on properties such as My Hero Academia and One Punch Man, which typically become arena fighter video games. While it does develop games in-house as well, like its popular Tales series of JRPGs, most of its anime-based titles are outsourced to third-party developers, as is the case with Cursed Clash, which comes from My Hero One's Justice developer Byking, Inc.

Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash is set to release on Feb. 2, 2024 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
