One Piece Anime's Wano Arc Made Eiichiro Oda Cry

The original creator of One Piece has admitted that he cried while watching the anime's "Wano" arc.

The revelation came from the Viz Media blog Mangaka Musings, where the creators of various manga discuss thoughts that have on life, their projects and so on. The blog contains a number of creators, with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, among them. In his part on the blog, he admitted that he’s been intensely moved by the recent anime arc: "Lately I cry every time I watch the One Piece anime. The Wano arc is soooo good! Thank you for the wonderful performances!!"

One Piece Impresses Its Creator

Oda isn’t the only one who has praised the "Wano" arc of the anime. Both fans and critics have thrown plenty of love onto the series over the last year, as each episode has not only had incredible animation but often seems to top itself with every new release. The manga is currently heading toward its finale, which means the anime will eventually catch up. However, for now, both the creator and series fans are loving every minute of One Piece in its animated form.

One of the key elements of the "Wano" arc helped wrap up the entire storyline: the fight between Luffy and Kaido. The Straw Hat Pirate faced off against the mighty dragon, who was hailed as one of the strongest around. Luffy had to dig deep into himself to push his limits, and through that, he unlocked the 5th Gear Form via his Devil Fruit. That form let him do whatever he desired with his body -- in essence, he gained the power of "Toon Force," and it was through this newfound power that he put Kaido down.

Likewise, One Piece has impressed many outside of the anime and manga, with the live-action series on Netflix showcasing how a proper live-action adaptation can be done. Not only did the Netflix series get an incredible amount of views, but it’s also already been renewed for Season 2. Rumors are already spreading about which characters might show and what actors will play them. might be cast as them. Notably, Oda was instrumental in helping guide the live-action series and ensuring that things were "on the right track" -- a venture in which he clearly succeeded.

The end of the One Piece "Wano" arc can be streamed now on Crunchyroll.
