Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Revives Its Most Powerful Tailed Best - With a Twist

As Boruto: Two Blue Vortex proceeds, there has been more intrigue seeded out with the Uzumaki clan. While Naruto and Hinata have been imprisoned and kept in stasis by Kawaki for three years, Boruto has been upgrading his abilities with Kashin Koji. It suggests there is a lot more to his genetics than the story has let on.

Eida's reality rewrite has Boruto's sister, Himawari, training in Konoha as well, thinking Kawaki is her brother and Boruto is the enemy. Shockingly, as Jūra hunts the girl down in Konoha, the ninth chapter of the franchise resurrects its most powerful Bijuu (Tailed Beast). There is a unique twist, though, that makes the series as unpredictable as ever.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Revives Kurama

Kurama Isn't The Experienced Nine Tails Fox of Old

Jūra and his fellow God Tree, Hidari, are keen on finding out who has the Nine Tails chakra in Konoha. They assumed they would find Naruto, but little did they know, he was decommissioned. They, instead, find Himawari. Nonetheless, Jūra wants to devour her, absorb her power, and whatever knowledge this Demon Fox chakra has. As an offshoot of the Ten Tails, Jūra believes this 'meal' can help him evolve, learn more about history, and figure out his purpose in this world.

As Himawari flees, her mind gets taken to the astral plane where Naruto often met Kurama. In this case, a baby fox is present. It's uncertain if it's a boy or a girl, but the fox is annoyed that the God Trees found it. The fox asks the girl if she knows who it is. Himawari says it's the Nine Tails, but she doesn't call it by name. That is another sign it may not be the old Kurama. Notably, the Naruto era did confirm these Tailed Beasts reincarnate.

For example, the Three Tails, Isobu, died when Rin killed herself, so she wouldn't rampage through the Hidden Leaf. It was then reborn, captured and placed in Yagura Karatachi of Kirigakure (i.e. the Fourth Mizukage). In the case of Himawari, it might be that, because she is of a special bloodline, she is the chosen receptacle rather than a sealing ritual being the cause. Himawari has Hyūga blood in her, so she is a descendant of Kaguya.

She also has Uzumaki blood in her (through Naruto's mother, Kushina), as well as Namikaze (through Naruto's father, Minato). Seeing as Naruto's parents were both jinchūrikis for Kurama, Himawari would be fit to be a vessel. Genetics alone doesn't affect this. The Gold and Silver Brothers descended from Kaguya and after eating Kurama's flesh from the inside, they carried his chakra in them for years, too. This creates a path for the Boruto era to dive deeper into the Naruto family tree, and if they're permanently tasked with carrying future foxes.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Can Finally Give Himawari Her Own Journey

Himawari Can Move Out of Boruto's Shadow

The Naruto era sidelined many female characters, like Hinata, and kept the likes of Sakura ancillary, even though she was on Naruto and Sasuke's team. The Boruto series has, unfortunately, done the same, placing Himawari in the background. She has a lot to explore given her powers and the Byakugan eyes she inherited from her mother.

As this new jinchūriki, she has a ton of potential and is poised to grow in the spotlight. Her skills as a fighter have increased, too. In the past, Boruto was scared of her. Now she can even repel Daemon's reflective attacks. All the other clues that hinted she had a god-mode are now adding up. Reconciling her history, it is clear that it may be due to the Kurama 2.0 inside her.

Hopefully, the Two Blue Vortex era subverts the male gaze of the property and gives Himawari a sister fox. It would help in terms of visibility, equality, balance and representation. More so, it would be fun seeing Himawari and a female Kurama doing their thing — something that can pull in female readers to the anime and manga. Himawari is already set to have her first major fight. As Inojin whisks her off on his bird, she admits she wants to flee to Konoha alone.

She knows this will lure the God Trees away and save her friends in the Hidden Leaf. This selfless behavior can automatically attune the fox to her, versus a Naruto and Kurama, who took a while to bond. Himawari is more selfless, compassionate, and filled with a lot more kindness and empathy. She is an innate protector and once Kurama 2.0 sees she wants to protect it, Himawari can become an even better, more powerful jinchūriki than her father ever was. It'd be an unexpected, progressive yet most welcomed creative move from Masashi Kishimoto and his creative team.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Can Offer Himawari Unique Teachers

Kashin Koji & Boruto Can Walk a New Path As Himawari Evolves

As much as Himawari has been conditioned to think Boruto is evil, some part of her — probably due to the fox — suspects he is her real brother. This could allow her to head to the outskirts and link up with Boruto. Fans don't know how much Boruto has evolved in detail. But he has grown stronger, ergo why he dispatched Kawaki so easily when he came to rescue his sister.

In addition, Kashin Koji (the Jiraiya clone) is around. He helped mentor Boruto, so he can do the same for Himawari. It would invert the story of a jovial Jiraiya assisting Naruto with an older Kurama and Sage Mode. Here, a darker Jiraiya can assist a younger fox and Himawari with their Sage Mode. It would feel totally organic to the story, as he knows all the techniques of his predecessor.

This would give Kashin Koji a new role and elevate Boruto to a higher calling as well. Usually, he is the big brother guarding his little sister, but now, Himawari is looking like she will be on equal ground soon, unlocking more of her destiny. Last but not least, Boruto can seek out the aid of the other Tailed Beasts who Naruto freed after Naruto Shippuden ended. They might have crucial advice for Himawari and the new Kurama, ensuring the partnership is fruitful and mutually safe for all parties.

Ultimately, this is a wild, exciting development. It further hints at a family reunion, as Kurama 2.0 can be the key to finding its former host, Naruto, and Hinata. It's about time the franchise picked up on this arc. It's spent too much time mentioning saving the clan, yet not really putting words to action. In the process, Two Blue Vortex can fix a franchise mistake by adding more feminist power to the property. This approach would make up for stiffing Hinata of air time and have her daughter go on to become an absolute one-woman army with Kurama 2.0 by her side.
