Oshi no Ko Original Artist Has No Involvement in Amazon's Live Action

Oshi no Ko original artist Mengo Yokoyari has revealed that she has no involvement in the upcoming live-action movie and TV series by Toei and Amazon, which are set to be released in the winter of 2024.

In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Yokoyari revealed that she left all supervision of Amazon and Toei's Oshi no Ko live-action adaptations to other staff, stating, "It’s difficult to tweet at this timing because anything I say will be featured in an article! 😂" Yokoyari accurately predicted. "(Don’t do it! 〰️) When the public was buzzing about Ano-san’s blonde hair, I was feeling nervous and excited 😈🌟. As for the live-action adaptation, I left everything from supervision to other aspects to the staff (I’m sorry! I couldn’t secure the schedule!), and I’m looking forward to it from the perspective of a viewer~!!! 🥳 #OshiNoKo."

Yokoyari's post came a full day after the official announcement that Oshi no Ko would be turned into a live-action. The author of Oshi no Ko, Aka Akasaka, instead gave his comments at the launch, revealing in part his surprise at Amazon and Toei's interest, especially considering Oshi no Ko's criticism of the entertainment industry and live-action adaptations, specifically.

Mengo Yokoyari's Lack of Live-Action Involvement May Turn Off Oshi no Ko Fans

Undoubtedly, Yokoyari's absence will be a big miss for many Oshi no Ko fans. Many audience members were drawn to her bright and eccentric character designs, and the live-action movie and TV series will likely have a huge challenge in attempting to translate these to the big screen. Instead, Yokoyari will continue her impressive work on the Oshi no Ko manga, which was one of Yen Press' most popular titles of 2023.

HIDIVE streams Oshi no Ko Season 1 for fans wanting to catch up with the series or watch for the first time. The streaming platform describes the series: "Dr. Goro is reborn as the son of the young starlet Ai Hoshino after her delusional stalker murders him. Now, he wants to help his new mother rise to the top, but what can a child do about the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry?"
