Sailor Moon Reveals New Creator Artwork and Merchandise for Exclusive Museum Showcase

In 2022, the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Museum in Roppongi, Tokyo opened its doors to the public for the first time. Now, the museum's dazzling collection is heading to Osaka for an exclusive limited-time showcase.

As detailed on the official website for the Sailor Moon Museum and on the Sailor Moon website, the exhibition features a wide selection of pieces by Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi. This collection spans the entire length of the franchise's history, from the serialization of the original Sailor Moon manga to over 20 years after its conclusion in Kodansha's monthly manga publication, Nakayoshi. Upon entering the venue, Sailor Moon fans will find an entire wall collage dedicated to famous scenes and lines from the iconic shojo series. The exhibition will also feature over 30 gorgeous full-color illustrations, including two new exhibits, all of which were created by Takeuchi. The event will be held at the Namba Parks Museum from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, June 2. Attendees can purchase tickets from the Namba Parks website.

The Sailor Moon Museum's Osaka exhibition is showcasing the manga exhibit with a brand-new holographic viewing system. According to the site description, this technique "allows the manuscript to sparkle and show different expressions depending on the viewing angle." Additionally, there will also be an entire section dedicated to past editions of Nakayoshi, allowing visitors to see how the publication represented the beloved franchise over the years. As shown in the video above, there will also be physical recreations of iconic outfits from the series, such as Usagi's middle school outfit and the black-and-yellow gown worn by Luna when she is in her human form.

The Sailor Moon Museum Is Set to Unveil Exhibit-Exclusive Merchandise

In honor of the event, Sailor Moon is introducing a plethora of exhibition-exclusive goods. Four of Takeuchi's most dazzling pieces of Sailor Moon artwork will be sold as "High Definition Post Card Set." Created with PrimoArt technology, these high-quality cards aim to replicate the original works as closely as possible, making them ideal souvenirs for those who wish to commemorate their visit. In collaboration with Aoki Shofuan, a company famous for its special brand of "milk manju" has teamed up with the franchise to release "Moon Makeup," a new version of its classic recipe. Milk Manju, a regional delicacy in Osaka, is a creamy milk-flavored dessert cake filled with sweet bean paste. Sailor Moon's "Moon Makeup" manju cakes come in a special box decorated with the museum's logo and illustrations of the five Sailor Scouts.

The Sailor Moon Museum in Tokyo's Roppongi region was designed to commemorate Sailor Moon's 30th Anniversary in 2022. This incredible collection featured over 600 different items, including storyboards from the original '90s anime series, setting materials, and official costumes from several of Sailor Moon's musical adaptations. Additionally, the museum hosted a Sailor Moon café filled with adorable themed menu items like the "Cosmic Heart Compact Dessert Plate," the "In the Name of the Moon, I'll Punish You! Omurice" and many more. The museum was opened on July 1, 2022, and remained open for a six-month period, eventually closing its doors on Dec. 30.

Sailor Moon's Osaka Exhibition will open its doors to ticket-holders on April 19, 2024. The original Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga series is available in English from Kodansha US.
