Toei and Amazon have formally announced an Oshi no Ko live-action movie and TV series, revealing its release window and cast with official visuals.
Oshi no Ko will be produced by Amazon and Toei and will be released in the winter of 2024, per a Toei press release. Amazon's Prime Video will stream the TV series worldwide while Toei will distribute the film. Aqua Hoshino will played by Kaito Sakurai (Ao Haru Ride Season 1 (live-action) and is joined by Asuka Saito (Ai Hoshino), Nagisa Saito (Ruby Hoshino), Nanoka Hara (Kana Arima), Mizuki Kayashima (Akane Kurokawa) and Ano (Mem-cho). The first official images of the Oshi no Ko cast and comments by author Aka Akasaka can be viewed below.
Toei Will Distribute Oshi no Ko's Live-Action Film Worldwide
Akasaka revealed his shock that Oshi no Ko would be adapted into live-action, stating, "Oshi no Ko is a work that touches on the live-action adaptation of manga works. It doesn't only speak positively; it also expresses criticism. So, I had thought that maybe it wouldn't be adapted into live-action." In addition to his excitement, he confirmed that Toei will be distributing the film worldwide.
This announcement follows reports from last month that revealed the first images from filming and the cast. With the cast confirmed now to be correct, this lends extra weight to the reports of the plot details of the Oshi no Ko live-action movie and TV series, as well as the focus of each. Oshi no Ko also debuted a live-action YouTube series centered on Pieyon as the franchise looks to capitalize on its worldwide fame. The anime's opening theme song "Idol" by YOASOBI was one of the most searched trends on Google, while the series ranked among the top 5 most-watched series on one of Japan's biggest streamers.
First-time audiences and fans looking to watch Oshi no Ko can do so via HIDVE, which streams the Oshi no Ko anime, describing the series: "Dr. Goro is reborn as the son of the young starlet Ai Hoshino after her delusional stalker murders him.
