10 Strongest Jujutsu Kaisen Characters (And How They Compare to the Manga)

One of the top new-gen shonen series of the modern day, Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen takes place in a dangerous and unpredictable world of curses and sorcerers - two supernatural forces that battle one another unbeknownst to average people. Thrust into the jujutsu world after becoming the vessel of history’s most powerful sorcerer, Ryomen Sukuna, Yuji Itadori soon finds himself surrounded by exceptionally skilled allies and equally formidable foes.

No character in JJK can survive without honing their powers. As such, the series’ multifaceted cast is filled to the brim with outstandingly vigorous heroes and villains. In the anime, the viewers have already been introduced to some of JJK’s most talented sorcerers, as well as plenty of terrifyingly fierce curses. Yet, the series’ strongest characters proceed to better their skills in the manga, sharpening their techniques to topple the growing threats they continue to encounter.

10 Maki Zenin Undergoes a Brutal Transformation After Shibuya

Born into an influential sorcerer clan without any cursed energy, Maki Zenin has been shunned by her family since childhood. However, the Zenin clan’s dismissal of the sorceress only fueled Maki’s resolve to become the strongest despite her limitations. The anime introduces Maki as an outstanding fighter with one of the best sets of hand-to-hand combat and weapon-wielding skills in the entire series.

Yet, Maki’s true awakening as a combatant doesn’t happen until after she recovers from the horrible injuries she survived in Shibuya. The manga’s following arcs see Maki unleash her wraith on the Zenin clan and, through a tragic sacrifice, transform into her ultimate form. As a Heavenly Restricted sorceress, Maki’s current skill level could rival even Toji Fushiguro’s, the infamous assassin who also didn’t possess any cursed energy.

9 Mahito Is a Disaster Curse with Truly Terrifying Powers

Jujutsu Kaisen’s first major antagonist and the strongest of the disaster curses, Mahito possesses a terrifying set of abilities he never hesitates to use for evil. His Idle Transfiguration technique allows him to reshape souls, practically stripping humanity from anyone he touches. During the Shibuya Incident, Mahito’s formidability, as well as his love for chaotic destruction, reached its climax.

The curse was responsible for most of the major deaths in the arc, including Nanami Kento and Nobara Kugisaki, yet was ultimately overpowered by Yuji and absorbed by Kenjaku. Mahito’s death at Kenjaku’s hand ended his evolution as a curse. However, it’s disquieting to even imagine what heights Mahito’s strength would have reached if he continued to hone his already horrifying abilities.

8 Yuki Tsukumo Is the Most Mysterious Out of the Four Special Grade Sorcerers

One of the most enigmatic characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, the special grade sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo is yet to demonstrate her powers in the series. However, her notoriety alone is enough to prove that Yuki is a formidable sorcerer, as she is placed in the same rank as Gojo, Geto, and Yuta. In the manga, Yuki’s powers are revealed to be tied to mass manipulation.

Her innate technique, Star Rage, allows Yuki to add virtual mass to herself and her shikigami, Garuda, to exponentially increase the destructive power of her attacks. While very secretive about her techniques and wary of actively participating in the jujutsu society’s workings, Yuki sided with the heroes on multiple occasions in the manga, facing even such challenging opponents as Kenjaku.

7 Yuji Itadori’s Adaptability Allows Him To Destroy Much More Experienced Opponents

Despite being the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji gets introduced to the world of sorcery at the same time as the viewers, gradually increasing his fighting skills to adapt to its dangers throughout the show. While Yuji started his journey as a sorcerer with already extraordinary physical abilities, he had to put in extra effort to master his control over cursed energy.

Nevertheless, Yuji’s adaptability, hard work, and natural talent allowed him to swiftly reach unprecedented mastery of jujutsu. The manga throws even more obstacles in Yuji’s way, and the never-ending fighting forces the hero to adapt and develop new skills on the fly, including the notoriously difficult reverse cursed technique. With Yuji’s current level, he can easily be considered one of the strongest, most resilient characters in the cast.

6 Suguru Geto’s Strength Used To Be Considered On-Par with Gojo’s

During their days as students of Jujutsu High, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were both considered the strongest. To this day, Geto is recognized as one of only four known special grade sorcerers and the most dangerous due to his hatred towards humanity. Geto’s innate technique, Cursed Spirit Manipulation, allowed him to absorb and control curses, resulting in his power being practically limitless as long as he had a powerful enough spirit at his disposal.

Even though Geto was killed by Gojo in the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, his body, together with his formidable ability, was appropriated by Kenjaku. Geto’s special grade powers continued to be used by Kenjaku and were even showcased at their full potential, Maximum: Uzumaki, when the ancient sorcerer absorbed Mahito.

5 Yuta Okkotsu Rightfully Deserves To Be Considered a Special Grade

An unassuming and timid teenager with little experience as a sorcerer, Yuta Okkotsu was immediately recognized as a special grade upon the discovery of his technique - Cursed Spirit Rika. The spirit of Yuta’s childhood sweetheart stayed by Yuta’s side after passing and turned into one of the series’ strongest curses.

While Yuta possessed special grade potential ever since his introduction in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, only manga readers understand the full magnitude of his abilities. Upon returning from his training in Africa, Yuta swiftly proves just how much he has matured as a sorcerer. After mastering new powerful techniques, such as Copy, and becoming even more skilled with his katana, Yuta ascended to the top of JJK’s power rankings.

4 Mahoraga Crowns Megumi’s Lineup of Shikigami for a Reason

The uncontrollable shikigami of Megumi Fushiguro’s Ten Shadows technique, the Divine General Mahoraga is Jujutsu Kaisen’s strongest non-human character to date. Despite being the trump card of Megumi’s ability, Mahoraga should never be summoned outside of particularly dire situations, as the ritual will end with the user’s death unless defeated. Mahoraga’s most formidable ability lies in its adaptability.

The Divine General can acclimate to virtually any attack or technique, making it truly unstoppable. The anime gave fans a glimpse of Mahoraga’s terrifying power during the shikigami’s battle with Sukuna. However, the true potential of Mahoraga’s adaptability unravels only in the manga. When wielded by history's strongest sorcerer, Sukuna, Mahoraga becomes the key to defeating Satoru Gojo during the Shinjuku Showdown climax.

3 Toji Fushiguro Stood His Ground Against Gojo Despite Lacking Cursed Energy

For most JJK characters, strength lies in their ability to manipulate cursed energy. This makes the feats of Toji Fushiguro, the feared Sorcerer Killer, even more impressive, as he was born with no cursed energy flowing through his body. Due to Toji’s Heavenly Restriction, he possessed outstanding physical strength and was undetectable by other sorcerers, making him a perfect assassin.

Toji demonstrated his astounding battle proficiency most evidently by defeating Gojo and Geto, both of whom were at the time already recognized as special grades, in the Hidden Inventory arc. And while Toji met his death at the hand of Gojo upon the strongest’s awakening, the Sorcerer Killer only lost after Gojo unexpectedly unlocked his Hollow Purple technique. In the manga, Toji’s strength is still regarded as unmatched, with Maki Zenin’s Heavenly Restricted physique coming close to Toji at his prime.

2 Satoru Gojo Rightfully Holds the Title of the Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era

Satoru Gojo’s status as the strongest sorcerer has never been disputed in the anime. Born with the extremely rare combination of the Gojo clan’s most powerful techniques - Six Eyes and Limitless - Satoru possesses infinite amounts of cursed energy, allowing him to never get worn out in battle. When combined with his mastery of the reverse cursed technique, Gojo’s Limitless lets him create powerful gravity blasts, making him basically unbeatable.

Gojo is not modest about his capabilities and openly accepts his status as the strongest, even challenging Sukuna, the sorcerer who held the title for centuries before Satoru, in the manga’s Shinjuku Showdown arc. Yet, the notorious battle might’ve proven that Gojo’s strength, after all, was not absolute, and there is a character in Jujutsu Kaisen who can defeat him.

1 Sukuna Has Been Regarded As History’s Strongest Sorcerer for Centuries

Feared for centuries as the formidable King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna used to haunt the jujutsu world during its golden age, the Heian era, and even then, he was never truly defeated. In the anime, Sukuna has yet to showcase the absolute of his capabilities. Yet, the few instances of Sukuna taking over Yuji’s body, such as his fight against the Finger Bearer in the Fearsome Womb arc or the massacre he triggered during the Shibuya Incident, were enough to give the viewers a vivid idea of the Disgraced One’s might.

In the manga, Sukuna succeeds in freeing himself from his vessel, finally letting the readers see his true form. The current threat looming over the jujutsu world, Sukuna has been successfully proving himself more powerful than all other sorcerers for the entirety of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, evincing that his reputation as history's strongest is fully justified.
