New One Piece First-Look Gameplay Leaves Fans in Awe of Anime-Accurate Visuals

The One Piece anime series has no shortage of video games, with recent releases like One Piece Odyssey and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. However, a new 2D-style fighting game currently in development is wowing longtime fans with its anime-accurate graphics.

One Piece: Ambition, formerly titled Project: Fighter, is a new mobile video game based on the One Piece series by Eiichiro Oda. While the game is still a work in progress, fans were given a taste of what to expect from One Piece: Ambition from its first public beta test. Thus far, the recent beta test appears to be a resounding success, leaving One Piece fans stunned by how much the game looks exactly like the anime -- or, according to some, even better than it. Social media X (formerly Twitter) user @/v2TokyoGhost shared some gameplay videos from One Piece: Ambition, demonstrating the game’s incredibly accurate anime graphics.

First-Look Gameplay From One Piece: Ambition Reminds Fans of Dragon Ball FighterZ

Based on comments by @/v2TokyoGhost and other online users, One Piece: Ambition evokes fond memories of Dragon Ball FighterZ with its anime-like visuals. Additionally, the game is also winning people over with its over-the-top combos and flashy finishers from its current roster of 24 characters. Interestingly, while the current selection of characters includes Sir Crocodile, Enel and Bellamy the Hyena, Nico Robin is nowhere to be seen. Of course, this game has yet to be officially released, meaning she will likely be added in a future update.

At this time of writing, One Piece: Ambition is only planned for release in China. There is currently no announcement for an English release, or even one in Japan. The game is developed by More Fun Studios Group -- owned by Chinese video game publisher Tencent -- which is officially working with Bandai Namco Entertainment in developing the game. However, given the strong global push behind One Piece in recent years, especially in North America, it’s certainly possible that One Piece: Ambition could receive an English release down the line.

In the meantime, the One Piece manga is continuing its grand adventures in the "Egghead" story arc before heading toward the "strongest country in the world." Roronoa Zoro, the second-in-command of the Straw Hat Pirates, is also receiving a prequel story that details his days as a Pirate Hunter before joining Monkey D. Luffy. The One Piece anime TV series and movies are available to stream via Crunchyroll and Netflix.
